December 17, 2018


Today’s meeting was held off site at the Recology Center in Samoa.  Brad Mettam led the meeting.  We pledged to a projected image of the flag and did the invocation. 
 
Continued good wishes for J. Warren Hockaday, who is recovering from successful cancer treatments.  The menu was Mexican food.  Tacos enchiladas beans and rice.

Our presenter was Jim Wood California Assemblyman.  He spoke on various topics including wild fires and health care.  The meeting room was full of recycled objects: Manikins, slot machines plastic bottles and the walls were covered with the art of Linda Wise head of Recology Arcata.

A good time was had by all.  The next two weeks we will be dark due to the holidays.    The next meeting is January 7, 2019.

December 10 2018


Welcome to December.  It’s disease prevention treatment month.  Now that you’ve lost your appetite let’s discuss the menu. Your choice of tri tip or chicken cordon bleu roasted potatoes and blackberry cobbler for dessert.
 
Chuck Ellsworth gave us a Quaker moment.  Brad Mettam presided, resplendent in his Rotary Vest. Keith Crossley brought Rick and Betty Littlefield to the podium to announce that Betty would become a Paul Harris fellow.  Rick contributed an additional $1000 to add to his fellowship.
 
Our program was Christmas songs by Eureka High’s Limited Edition.  They included such classics as Carol Of the Bells and White Christmas and a humorous version of the Twelve Days Of Christmas plus a new song “White Winter Hymnal written by the Fleet Foxes.  They were directed by Charles Young.

Next week the meeting is off site at the Recology recycling center in Samoa. Congressman Jim Wood will be speaking. You’ll need to RSVP to Klark Swan pretty soon.  Merry Christmas.
 
There are still openings for "Burl Reporter". No experience necessary.  Must like thankless jobs.

Today’s menu was fried cod or ham steaks with vegetable medley. Brad Mettam was out of
Town so Carly Robbins was leading the meeting.  Will Kay led us in the flag salute.  Jay Reed gave the invocation.   Carly announced that December was Foundation Month.  S
pecial Announcement:  December 17 The Rotary Meeting will be held on location at The Recology Center in Samoa. RSVPs are required if you want lunch.  Assemblyman Jim Woods will be there. 

Also a reminder that the club will be dark on 12/24 and 1/1/19.  Gregg Gardiner put in a word for Toys For Tots.  They are also collecting for Fire victims.

Our presenter was Scott Pesch who works for Pacific Partners Property Management.  He reported on the state of property management in 2018.  Warehouse space has increased in value due to the marijuana business.  Total real estate sales were 582,840,545.  79% of that was residential, 6% multi-family (apartments) 7 % land and 8% commercial.  He said sales have doubled in the last five years.  Ever wonder what a “triple net lease” is? Rent + property taxes + insurance.  All of you who knew that raise your mouses.
